I created this as a last-minute request from a customer who needed a backdrop for her husband’s birthday party (which was to be within the next day and a half).
The theme of the party was 80’s Hip-Hop, and she wanted the partygoers to use my image as a photo backdrop for picture-taking fun. She had purchased a projector and everything.
I was very excited about creating this and was given only a few pertinent instructions: include graffiti, incorporate 80’s breakdancing slang, and draw some breakdancers in various poses. And do it QUICKLY!!!
I think it came out well. The customer was very satisfied with it exactly the way I designed (with no requested alterations or do-overs).
Some of my newer readers readers don’t believe that I’ve been drawing ADDANAC CITY comics for over 20 years.
In fact, my latest printed comic book, ADDANAC CITY #2 “Camp Chaos”, is actually a revamped remake of issue #4 of the original series I created between 1994-1997.
In those days, I not only wrote, penciled, inked, and lettered everything by hand, I also colored my book covers with PrismaColor Art Markers (remember those?).
I even took it as far as to beg for local advertising. I also printed each and every comic of my AC comics with the help of a Sharp copier and the kind folks at Staples (pka Office America in those days) to print out my color covers (at $1.29 a pop).
I even had to travel more than 50 miles one-way just to get each issue’s cover printed. My town did not have any color printer capabilities in those days.
So, I am presenting to you a pic of the original “Camp Chaos” cover on the left, and my recently redone cover on the right.
Hopefully, technology and my art skills have both gotten better over two decades.
This event will be a celebration of infinite proportions because it will mark the official world-premiere of my all-new full-color comic book ADDANAC CITY #2 CAMP CHAOS.
In these highly-hilarious 24 pages, you will bear witness to what happens when you unleash consistently incorrigible Hank Addanac loose into the wonderful wilderness of Addanac City State Park.
His pitifully patient father, Harvey Addanac, is intent upon showing his only son the beauty of roughing it, but…uhh….things get a bit rougher than was expected. With mom, Simone, and “frenemy”, Christie, in tow, this is gonna be one camping adventure none of them will ever forget! 😀
So, please stop by and scoop up a special autographed edition of this comical comic. You can also get your hands on issue #1, ADDANAC CITY: Weekend Worriers which is still available while supplies last.
ADDANAC CITY #1 “Weekend Worriers” features most of your favorite characters from the AC daily comic website. There’s the Hank (of, course) and the gang (Christie, Tim, and Esteban).
And there are also appearances from members of Hank‘s family (dad Harvey, mom Simone, and grandfather Leland).
And let us not forget some of the other popular supporting characters such as Dwayne Connor, Dr. Proctor, Lloyd Fallon, and constantly-bickering couple Gus and Tilsie Gentry.
You can also get special deals when purchasing both books and one or two of the AC Sampler comics which feature individual collections of fan-favorite Addanac City comic strips as previously seen on the earlier incarnation of the AC website.
I hope to see you there for FCBD. I aim to appear from 10am-4pm, so be sure to say hi to me and all of the other talented creators who will be appearing! For more information, please click here.
After about a month of hard work and lots of trial & error, I have finally completed the first ADDANAC CITY comic book to premiere in nearly twenty years.
Right now, everything is at the printer’s getting prepped for production. I aim to have issue #1 in my grubby, greedy hands by the end of March, making it available for purchase around that time also.
As a treat, I’m posting this sneak preview of the cover. Hope you like it! So get your pennies together and prepare for the AC Takeover coming very, very soon.
