Paul Westover and I go back maybe a year or so. I first became privy of his awe-inspiring talents while strolling thru Webcomicdom (a fictional realm in which I wish to one day be king, prince, or moat-drainer), I ran into this new comic called Woody After Hours. I believe the fact that the name sounds like something my mother would not want me watching on cable television made me decide to give it a click and see what the hullaballoo was all about.
The first thing I liked (personally) was that the series takes place in Raleigh, NC, a city in which I am more than somewhat familiar with. The second thing I liked was the awesome artwork. I said to myself, “Self, who is this young upstart who stakes his claim upon the world with pad and pen?”. This guy, Paul Westover, whoever he is, can draw his @$$ off.
I love the expressions on Paul’s characters and his linework is quite impressive. Why this dude is still working at the Free Clinic is beyond me (I guess he likes the employee discount). I jest. And joust, depending on what day it is. Anyway, let’s just say I’m in awe of Paul’s skills.
Paul and I collaborated once before during an Addanac City/Woody Afters Hours crossover (or as they prefer to call it, the Woody After Hours/Addanac City crossover). He would draw a portion of the necessary panels and I would insert a drawing of Hank into it. It was extremely fun for me plus I learned a lot about this thing called Adobe Photoshop (it’s gonna change the nation, I tells ya!). Here’s a small clip of what Paul and I accomplished. Also, the crossover was co-written by WAH co-creator Ben Carter and myself. I think it came out very nicely. Click pic below to read a sample of the fun and excitement.
I’m very glad that Paul decided to participate in my guest strip event this year. I think his comic is hilarious and I truly give a head-nod to the way he draws Hank’s hair. I also dig the sound effects. Nothing sounds quite like Smear. So, enjoy today’s AC Guest Comic and go see what’s going on at Paul’s site. You may be fortunate enough to see Woody pop up somewhere.
NEWS ITEM: Today’s is the last Guest Strip for this season. I thank all of my many contributors (whom I will re-name in a blog probably tomorrow). Tomorrow, I take back the captain’s chair and get behind the wheel once again. Come see what I have in store for ya!
