Okay, I have a question or two for you ladies and gentlemen.

GUYS: If your wife/girlfriend/significant other earned more money than you did, how would you feel about that? Would it make you mad, grumpy, or more competitive? Or would it not even bother you at all?

LADIES: If you began to earn more money than your spouse/boyfriend/main squeeze, would you shout it out loudly in celebration or would you just keep it privately to yourself to avoid hurting anyone’s feelings of self-worth? Is it that big a deal to you?

C’mon, you can be honest here. Your loved ones don’t read this strip anyway. I’m just a naturally curious person, and I only wonder how others feel on the subject. This may have been a large issue a few decades ago, but I wanna know if time (and viewpoints) have actually changed in the 21st century.

Personally, I don’t care that my wife earns more than I do. We work at the same place, but she’s been there far longer than I have. Plus, we’re a family and whatever we both earn goes collectively into keeping our family fed, clothed, healthy, and happy. I don’t get jealous because she’s the major breadwinner. In fact, I’m just glad I have a job. It took almost a year to the day I came out to California to find one, so I’m just grateful.

Now, if she and I were both cartoonists, and her webcomic skyrocketed and took off like hotcakes, that may get me a lil’ peeved.
