Aidan Casserly’s Scapula Is Connected To My Funny Bone

I have been a fan of the weekly webcomic Scapula for quite some time now. The series, created by the incomparable Aidan Casserly, is zany, over-the-top, wonderfully drawn, and expertly colored. Sometimes I like to click on the newest comic and just stare at the beauty of the artwork.

Anyway, I like Scapula so much that I ordered the Collector’s Edition of the comic.

I truly enjoy reading comics on the internet, but there is nothing in the world like holding an actual book in your hands and relishing in the smell and feel of the paper. There’s a joy in turning each page, cringing because you know the end is near, yet anticipating the climax and resolution.

I’ve recently started purchasing some of the comic strip collections of my favorite series. I’ve just begun, so don’t be mad if I haven’t ordered yours yet. I’m working on it. That Project Wonderful trust fund reward ransom money trickles in very slowly. :D

Aidan rose to the top of the pack because his devilishly ingenious mind developed an incentive plan. Check out the drawing below:

This is a drawing of Jemini, my ultimate favorite character from the Scapula webcomic series. I was telling Aidan one day via Facebook how much I liked that particular piece. He replied that it could be mine if I ordered a copy of his newest book.

After I reeled my tongue back into my mouth, I promised to order one as soon as I could.

That took awhile, but Aidan, fine gentleman that he is, held on to that artwork for me until I became financially solvent. Here’s a pic of me cheesing over the original artwork! :D

The webcomic Scapula is beautiful to simply gaze upon and the writing ranges from side-splitting to heart-wrenching (depending on which day it is). I’ve really gotten a kick outta reading this series, and I believe you will too. So, go check out Scapula and show Aidan some support for his idiot brainchild. And be sure to order your own copy of the Collector’s Edition! :D

AC Fan Art by Roland Perez of “Metal Jaw Comics”

I communicate with a lot of different people on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, and the majority of my interactions deal with other cartoonists in the webcomic field. We support one another, leave comments, give advice, and find ourselves entertained by our peers’ individual artistic projects.

One guy who is always dependable and can be counted upon to lend a hand or spread the word is Roland Perez of Metal Jaw Comics. Roland and I don’t speak all day every day, but we do raise a hand and say whasssssup whenever we bump into each other on the web.

One day on Twitter, Roland notified me that he was working on some AC Fan Art for me. I replied that I was completely honored and told him not be in any rush. He could email me the finished design whenever he felt like it. I hate to make someone who’s doing me a favor feel unnecessarily pressured.

A week after that communique, I received the image below in my Gmail inbox:

I was blown away! I feel that this drawing totally captures the way Hank regards us mortals and the rest of the mouth-breathers crawling around the world. The boy/monster I created so many eons ago is a seven-year-old megalomaniac and sociopath and Roland understood that perfectly and rendered that vision impeccably.

Roland Perez creates his own webcomic, Z & G, on his Metal Jaw Comics website. The series updates on Mondays and Fridays in full glorious color.

And in Roland’s own words, here’s how he describes the stars of his webcomic series:

Z (Zech) is not your run of the mill flesh eating zombie. He is more of a voodoo zombie who after being brought back to life, was given no direction due to the witch who brought him back being killed. He is a little on the slow side with a hint of being naive. Z just recently had a run-in with his wife, Milly, from when he was alive. He still has no recollection of her.

G (Geist) on the other hand is an ornery ghost who is pink and unable to leave the confines of the house that Z and he share. Z likes his hanging out with G, as where G is just stuck.”

If you get a chance, please take some time and visit Z&G. It’s always a fun read and Roland‘s imagination will lead you any and everywhere. So strap in and get prepared for a mental journey unlike any other.

And tell him that Big George sent ya! Thanks for everything, Roland! I owe ya one. :D
